The Massasoit Community College Foundation is pleased to announce that that it has received a $50,000 donation from the New England Sinai Hospital Charitable Foundation in memory of former New England Sinai Hospital Board of Trustees member Jerald S. Savage. The donation will establish the Jerald S. Savage Memorial Nursing Scholarship for Massasoit Community College nursing students.

The gift was presented on Thursday, April 21, 2016 in a ceremony at the College’s Canton Campus attended by members of the Savage, New England Sinai, and Massasoit families. Mr. Savage was honored and remembered by his wife, alumna Sheryl Savage, who is a former Massasoit Community College employee and Board of Trustees member; his son Michael Savage; and his daughter, Karen Knox. New England Sinai Hospital was represented by Barry Koslow, chairman of the hospital’s board of trustees, James Kenney, vice chairman of the board, and Mary Beth Urquhart, vice president for patient care services and chief nursing officer at the hospital. Massasoit Community College was represented by members of the nursing department, administration, faculty, staff, and students.

Jerald “Gerry” Savage was a graduate of Bentley College, a Certified Public Accountant, and founder and principal of the firm Wallace, Savage & Davis C.P.A. He was deeply committed to giving back to the community, serving as treasurer of the Curry College Board of Trustees, a member of the New England Sinai Board of Trustees, and a member of its finance committee. He was also a member of the Old Colony YMCA Board of Directors, the Stoughton Zoning Board of Appeals, and its finance committee.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the New England Sinai Charitable Foundation and of the Savage family,” said Dr. Charles Wall, Massasoit Community College president. “Massasoit Community College is deeply appreciative of this donation, which both helps to provide financial support for our nursing students and honors their commitment to bettering the lives of others through their work in healthcare.”
